Who are members of the Court of Queen Isabella?
Throughout their one-year term, the Court represents the Italian Heritage Parade, its Board of Directors, and the greater Italian-American community by attending cultural celebrations, civic events, charitable functions, and community gatherings. Through their service, Court members honor the rich traditions of their heritage while inspiring future generations to embrace and celebrate their Italian roots.
How is the Court of Queen Isabella selected?
The Court of Queen Isabella is selected through a competitive interview process conducted by a panel of judges. Young women of Italian heritage, ages 14–25, are invited to participate for the opportunity to be selected for one of the following positions: Queen, Princess, Duchess, Contessa, or Lady-in-Waiting.
The titles of Queen and Princess require candidates to have completed a minimum of one year of service on the Court and to be at least 17 years of age on the day of the San Francisco Italian Heritage Parade. Selection for these positions is highly competitive, and there are no guarantees of placement, including for returning Court members.
All positions are determined annually based on each candidate’s interview and overall qualifications. Candidates are evaluated on their poise, grace, professionalism, community involvement, participation in the Italian community, public speaking abilities, commitment and performance during prior service (if applicable), sponsorship participation (if applicable), and demonstrated dedication to preserving and promoting their Italian heritage.
Members of the Court of Queen Isabella serve a one-year term, from September through August, during which they represent the Italian-American community by participating in cultural celebrations, civic events, charitable activities, and official functions. Throughout their year of service, Court members serve as ambassadors of Italian heritage, proudly promoting the traditions, values, and contributions of the Italian-American community
